This book aims to contribute to an understanding of modern leadership and management from an islamic perspective. Western management theories have dominated the business environment throughout history but many theories do not provide satisfactory solutions to today’s problems. Conventional management theories have many limitations as they focus on rationality, linear thinking and causal relationships. This approach is overly simplistic for understanding and managing practices. The existing theories do not always match tomorrow’s problem. What is needed is a lasting solution to the issues related to corruption, injustice, exploitation, oppression, conflict and distrust. The key to resolving today’s problem lies in what people believes in. It is necessary to shape human attitudes and behaviour in order to change how they behave. Islam provides the solution as as it gives practical ideas to tackle the multitude of problems in the corporate environment. The religion is characterized by peace, tolerance and compassion, and incorporates spiritual and human notions of justice, equity, trust, patient and wisdom. Muslims and non-muslims alike will benefit from the islamic concept of leadership and management as revealed in the quran and hadiths.
